Can you tell the quality of carpet by bending it?
Carpets are designed to perform at their best when flat on the floor (except for some that bend on stairs). With the exception of woven carpets, all of them have spaces between the tufts or ends. A better way to judge the quality of carpeting is to feel the density or thickness of the pile. Use your fingers and feel the carpet on a flat surface. The best quality and performance will generally come from carpets that feel denser, thicker, and tighter.
What’s the difference between branded and unbranded carpet fibers?
The biggest difference between branded and unbranded yarns in your carpet is the treatment of the fibers. Name brand carpet companies will use proprietary treatments like Anso® nylon, Wear-Dated®, Stainmaster®, and Shaw R2X. These chemical treatments can help your carpet to repel stains, endure damage from heavy traffic, and keep its color for longer. Another advantage of branded fibers is the extended warranties. The carpet manufacturer will guarantee the quality of their product, giving you protection and peace of mind. Can I save money by putting a good cushion underneath a less expensive carpet?

You will save more money in the long run with a durable carpet than you would from buying a less expensive one that will wear out sooner. What is carpet twist?
The twist in your carpet is the number of times the carpet yarn or fibers are turned. Most of the time, you can expect better performance from carpet with more twist on the fibers. You can also feel the difference between carpets that have tighter twists and those that are looser.
