When should you use laminate flooring?

How is laminate flooring made?
Laminate floors consist of several layers. The top layer is the wear layer. It protects the floor from stains, fading, and wear. The top layer is followed by a highly detailed image design layer which is a photography of the original material. The inner core layer is a high-density fiberboard that provides strength and stability. Lastly, the backing layer is a moisture barrier that protects the laminate from warping.
Which is better: installing laminate or engineered hardwood?
The answer to that completely depends on the location, budget, and personal preferences. Engineered hardwood is generally considered the most impressive, but its susceptibility to moisture, climate, and scratching, combined with the higher price tag, creates a dilemma for many people. Laminates are more cost-friendly and have become more and more realistic looking.
How can I remove scratch marks from my laminate floors?
Never drag anything heavy over your laminate flooring. For minor scratches, there are special, color-coded pencils that may be used to fill in scratches. Come see us for more information. By using some common sense precautions, you can help keep your floor looking like new. Use walk-off mats in front of all doorways and felt pads under all furniture legs.
Can a deep scratch in my laminate floor be repaired?
For severe damage, it is possible to replace the damaged plank without destroying or tearing out the rest of the floor. For the advanced do-it-yourselfer, you will need special tools, including router bits and wood splines to do a plank replacement job. However, we suggest you leave a plank replacement job to professional installers. Save any extra planks from the original installation in case you need to make repairs in the future.
